From Website: The striking 52,000 square foot purple building, designed by Mexico City-based architect Ricardo Legorreta, signals the purpose of Children’s Discovery Museum to serve the needs of children, families and schools as a center for learning and discovery.
Encompassing the broad themes of community, connections and creativity, exhibits invite self-directed, open-ended explorations, while programs provide facilitated, focused, and sustained interactions.
Since opening in June, 1990, the Museum has welcomed over 3 million visitors and has offered new interactive exhibits each year that respond to children’s diverse educational needs. With the addition of the West Wing in 1997, the Museum expanded its size by twenty percent.
The purpose of Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose is to serve the needs of children, families and schools as a center for learning and discovery. For children, it is first and foremost a place to call their own, offering interactive exhibits and programs in a warm and inviting setting. Its educational mission encompasses the themes of Connections, Community, and Creativity. In its unique environment, children actively make connections among ideas, people and cultures. The Museum’s programs also encourage children to define their role in and contribution to both local and global communities. Finally, as a center for creative play and expression, Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose provides opportunities for all of us to discover the world through the eyes of our children.

There is a NEW technical visit in Silicon Valley called the NASA Ames Mars Center. It features a theatre with live feeds from NASA as well as a simulated Martian landscape. The Mars Center is located outside the main gate of the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, just 10 minutes north of Santa Clara off Interstate 101. Admission is free.

Summary: Each year, some 13,000 visitors take advantage of NUMMI’s public tour program. The 90-minute tour discusses the origins and culture of the historic joint venture of Toyota and General Motors, provides company statistics, explains our manufacturing processes and basic concepts of the Toyota Production System, and takes visitors on a tram tour through the Stamping, Body and Weld, and Assembly areas of the plant.
They offer two tours daily, Tuesday through Friday 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Tours are free, but reservations are required.
Their tour program is very popular, so book as early as possible. If you are scheduling a group of 10 or more for a 10 a.m. tour, you need to plan three to four months in advance.
Open to individuals, families, or groups. Maximum number of guests per tour is 48. Please let them know in advance if any visitors use a wheelchair or have other special needs. There is a 150-yard walk to the tram.

Summary: Founded in 1975, The Marine Mammal Center is a nonprofit organization that rescues, rehabilitates and releases injured, sick and orphaned marine mammals (seals, sea lions, dolphins, porpoises, whales and sea otters) along a 600 mile stretch of California coastline, from Mendocino County through San Luis Obispo County. Before The Center was established, stranded marine mammals were either left to die or were destroyed as threats to public health.
The hospital site in The Marin Headlands is open to visitors every day of the year from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
People from all over the world visit The Center. More than 100,000 people are reached by The Center’s education programs each year.

Zeum’s mission is to foster the creativity of young people of all backgrounds by:

History
Zeum is the cornerstone of the Rooftop at Yerba Buena Gardens, an innovative project of the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency to develop an entire city block as an urban destination for youth. More than a decade in the planning, Zeum was founded as a not-for-profit organization in 1992, began its signature brand of community programming in 1995, broke ground on its permanent facility in 1996 and opened to the public on October 31, 1998. Zeum was formerly known as the Studio for Technology and the Arts.
